There are problem gamblers at casinos, but not significantly more than in the general population, according to a new study on gambling addiction. A study of 500 gamblers at the Mohegan Sun casino indicates that the proportion of problem gamblers is about 5% – roughly the same as in the general population.
‘I think people think there’s going to be much more problem gamblers (at a casino),” said Cheryle Molina, a researcher with the University of Connecticut Health Center’s Gambling Research and Treatment Center. But, I don’t think it was that much higher than the general population. It is higher though.”
Molina has been interviewing gamblers at Mohegan Sun casino during the past two months and screening them for other possible studies into gambling addiction. Gamblers completed surveys about their gaming habits to determine if they were eligible for the other studies.…Read more
